Our first stop on our first day in DC was the US Capitol. On our last day we got to tour the Capitol. I took this on the first day.
The tour was canceled at the last minute because of the “King A’ England” as Tim Wilson would say, (no offense to my friends in/from England :-)) just like our Whitehouse tour. Luckily it was rescheduled. Whew!
The tour was awesome because all of us were able to see both chambers. Sometimes you can only see one of the two.
There was nothing going on in the House of Representatives side - which is the far end of the Capitol in the picture. However some of us got to see Rep. Thomas Massie in the gallery two rows in front of us talking to some people in the row in front of us. We could almost reach out and touch him - he was that close. Others of us got to see Rep Jim Jordan on the floor just mingling around.
On the Senate side - the near wing in the picture - we were all able to see Sens. John Thune and Lisa Murkowski speak and maybe saw Sen. Bill Hagerty - we weren’t quite sure. A bill was even passed while we were there. What bill you ask? No idea. But it was interesting hearing the gavel smack and the words “bill is passed” ring out.
I have toured the Capitol a few times in my life. I never saw the House chamber and there was never anyone or anything going on in the Senate. This was quite a treat! We aren’t big fans of any of these people, but it was interesting nonetheless.
