We just got back from a trip to Washington DC. Some of Eileen’s family have never been and no one is getting any younger, so off we went. We had a great time, but King Charles III put a little bit of a monkey in the wrench - as John McClane would say in the first Die Hard. We had a tour scheduled for the Whitehouse but alas, since the King was in town, our tour was canceled. To make matters worse, we could not get within two blocks of the Whitehouse. Lafayette Park across Pennsylvania Ave was closed as was the Ellipse on the south side. Therefore, the picture taking opportunity was rather limited. We were so disappointed. But the rest of the trip was good.
I took this shot of the south side of the Whitehouse from the other side of the Ellipse. Had I known all of this prior to the trip, I might have lugged my big zoom. OK, I probably wouldn’t have. So, I used my trusty 18-135 and cropped the hell out of this photo. Then re-enlarged it in Lightroom. There are some flaws, however. Even though it was a beautiful day, there were some heat waves that distorted some of the straight lines in the photo like the pillars, the windows, the fence, etc. However, Topaz Photo AI did a pretty good job of getting rid of that, but it really made a mess of the railings on the balconies and stairways so I just left those alone.
All in all I am happy with the shot. And for those of you thinking we went because of a particular resident, we tried to tour the Whitehouse back in 2010 and we could not get in then either. So there!
